Three issues yet to be resolved in Indo-US Nuke deal

Implementation of the Indo-US civil nuclear deal is delayed as the two countries are yet to resolve at least three issues.

New Delhi: Implementation of the Indo-US
civil nuclear deal, concluded last year, is delayed as the two
countries are yet to resolve at least three issues and the
matter will be discussed during the upcoming meeting between
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Barack Obama.

US Ambassador Timothy J Roemer identified these issues as
enactment of Liability legislation by India, negotiations on
setting up of Dedicated Reprocessing Facility in India and
licensing aspects.

"We are optimistic that all the three issues will be
resolved soon... We are pushing hard to implement the
agreement," he said at a press conference here when asked
about delay in implementation of Indo-US civil nuclear deal.

Roemer said four-five issues with regard to implementation
of the nuclear deal had remained to be resolved when he
arrived in India as Ambassador earlier this year.

"Tremendous progress" has been made on this issue since
then but three issues were yet to addressed, he said.

He said Singh and Obama, during their meeting in
Washington on November 24, would discuss how to resolve these
issues and implement the historic deal.

Observing that the "historic" nuclear deal had brought
about "confidence and trust" between India and the US, Roemer
said it was a "win-win" agreement for both sides as it will
boost power generation in India and create jobs and help
manufacturing industry in the US.
