AFSA extended by six months in 40 Tripura police station areas

Agartala: The Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) has been extended by another six months in 40 police station areas in Tripura, official sources said on Thursday.

"Even though insurgency is on the wane in the state it is not totally wiped out. Some of the areas, mostly bordering Bangladesh are still disturbed. The State Level Coordination Committee looking after insurgency situation has recommended extension of the act and the government has accepted it," the sources said.

AFSPA has been in force fully in 34 police station areas and partially in six since 1997 and remains in force in the same areas.
