A security alert has been sounded in Assam in view of the Independence Day boycott call given by militant groups, including ULFA.

Guwahati: A security alert has been
sounded in Assam in view of the Independence Day boycott call
given by militant groups, including ULFA.

Official sources said army, paramilitary forces and
police are on high alert and have stepped up security to
ensure a peaceful Independence Day.

All the major towns have been sealed and additional
police pickets posted near vital installations including
railway stations, airports and oil refineries, the sources
said.

The police have launched search operation in and
around Guwahati following Intelligence input that a group of
ULFA militants have sneaked in to carry out subversive
activities.

Meanwhile, two militants, one of them a bomb expert,
have been arrested by police in the city.

Security has also been tightened in all the district
headquarters of the state, the sources said.
