Gangtok: Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling
today expressed concern at the receding glaciers across the
world, including Sikkim, due to global warming and called upon
the international community to take effective measures to deal
with the climate change.

The glaciers, including those in Sikkim, have been
receding over the years due to global warming, he observed at
the centenary celebrations of the Forest department at Saramsa
Garden near here.

All of us must individually and collectively fight the
menace of global warming and climate change for the survival
of mankind, he said.

Chamling, who has presided over the forest cover increase
in the state over the years at 46 per cent at present through
successful implementation of Green Mission campaign and other
measures for protection and preservation of bio-diversity in
Sikkim, called for replication of his model of afforestation
in the country and abroad to reduce the threat from global
warming and climate change.
