Government extends truce with Naga group

The truce between the government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang was signed in April 2001 had expired on Thursday.

New Delhi: The Indian government on Friday extended by a year the 10-year-old ceasefire with a Naga militant group.
The truce between the government and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) was signed in April 2001 had expired on Thursday.

"The extension of ceasefire was reviewed and the government has decided to extend it for a further period of one year with effect from (Friday)," a Home Ministry spokesperson said.

The truce is in operation with NSCN-K since April 28, 2001. It has been extended every year.
