LF and Congress call Tripura bandh on Wednesday

Ruling Left Front and opposition Congress have called 12-hour statewide bandh on Wednesday.

Agartala: Ruling Left Front and
opposition Congress have called 12-hour statewide bandh on Wednesday.

Congress has called the bandh to protest the alleged
atrocities of police and security forces on Congress workers
and supporters on Sunday when they tried to resist the
examinees of Common Entrance Test (CET) of Tripura Medical
College (TMC) on the plea that it was illegal and detrimental
to the interests of the students of the state.

At least 83 people including 11 journalists were
injured when police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) resorted to
lathicharge.

Next day, Congress organised a silent rally to protest
against the police atrocities, but suddenly turned violent and
attacked the West Agartala police and injured eleven police
personnel and damaged four vehicles.

The Left Front called the bandh on the same day to
protest the hooliganism of Congress leaders and supporters.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan here
today TPCC spokesman Ratan Chakraborty said his party would
soon submit a memorandum to the Governor Dr DY Patil demanding
dismissal of the Left Front government on the ground that the
law and order has collapsed.
