Rural areas in Sikkim to be electrified by next year

The Sikkim government aimed at completing the electrification of all households in rural areas of the state under the Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Grameen Vidyututikaran Yojana by next year.

Gangtok: The Sikkim government aimed at
completing the electrification of all households in rural
areas of the state under the Rajiv Gandhi Rashtriya Grameen
Vidyututikaran Yojana by next year.

This was announced today by the Minister for Energy
and Power Sonam Gyatso Lepcha while responding to the
discussion over the Demands for Grants of departments under
his charge in the assembly today.

It would be completed next year, well-ahead of 2012,
fixed as the target for the entire nation, he said.

He said that tenders have been floated for all the
four districts and the progress report was quite encouraging.

He assured that the Industrial Training Institute
under the Project area of the Teesta Stage V Hydel Project
would soon become a reality and the government was searching
for suitable land.

The Union Minister for Energy had announced allocation
of Rs five crore for the proposed Institute during formal
commissioning last year.

Later, the House unanimously passed the Demands for
Grants for the Departments under his charge .

The assembly also passed the Demands for Grants for
some other departments.

Earlier, the assembly unanimously passed the Sikkim
Value Added Tax (Amendment ) Bill, 2010 without discussion.
