Snowfall in Arunachal`s Tawang district

Tawang town in Arunachal Pradesh`s Tawang district located at 10,200 feet above sea level is covered with three feet of snow with the temperature dropping to minus four degree celcius.

The entire Tawang district bordering China has been
experiencing heavy snowfall since December 23, official
sources said.

The snow has brought cheer for young monks at the
Tawang Monastery.

Snowfall during the Torgya festival, being celebrated
in the first week of this month, is considered a harbinger of
peace and prosperity by the Monpas of Tawang and West Kameng
districts.

Sela Pass at an altitude of 14,000 feet on the
Bomdila-Tawang road has been covered by five feet snow for the
last couple of months.

The Border Roads Organisation has stationed its men to
clear the road of snow, Nagamdra Kumar, officer-in-charge of
62 Road Construction Company (RCC) of the BRO, said.

Heavy snowfall has been recorded in other districts of
the state also in the past couple of weeks throwing normal
life out of gear.

Mechuka in West Kameng district was covered in snow
for the past month. Anini, the headquarters of Dibang Valley
district also received heavy snowfall since last month.
