Phulbani (Orissa): The Basudev Panigrahi
judicial commission probing the Kandhamal communal riot in
2007 wound up its camp court at Baliguda on Tuesday, two days ahead of schedule due to non-availability of witnesses.

The commission headed recorded statements of only 8
riot-affected persons during two days though notices were
issued to 11 of them, government advocate G C Das said.

Those who did not turn up did not inform the commission
about the reason for their absence, he said.

The one-man commission, probing into the riot which took
place on Christmas eve 2007 after an attack on VHP leader
Laxmananada Saraswati and claimed three lives, was earlier
scheduled to hold camp court at Baliguda from October 5 -
October 8.

As many as 481 people had filed affidavits with the
Panigrahi Commission and about 83 persons have so far deposed
before it, home department sources said.

Yet another judicial commission is probing the
ethno-communal riot that broke-out in the backward Orissa
district after the VHP leader`s killing on August 23, 2008 and
claimed 40 lives.
