Maoists shot dead two people Monday in Odisha`s Malkangiri district, suspecting them to be police informers, an official said.

About 15 armed rebels, many of them women, dragged 40-year-old Ramesh Kabadi and 33-year-old Naresh Dhali from their villages in Kalimela area and shot them dead.

The bodies were found at Bejangwada village under Kalimela police station, about 750 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, district Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh told IANS.

Police have rushed to the site for further investigation, he said.

Left-wing extremists are active in more than half of Odisha and Malkangiri district is one of their strongholds.
