Karwar: A sailor deployed at the naval
base here allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with
his service gun while on patrol duty at sea, a top police
official said.
Sunil Sahu (24) shot himself with his gun while on patrol
duty, Karwar DSP Ullas Vernekar said.
"The incident occurred when Sahu was alone in the
sailor's cabin and the other crew members were busy preparing
dinner in the pantry," he said.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought
dead, Vernekar said, adding that the reason for the suicide is
yet to be ascertained.
Sahu's parents in Orissa have been informed, Vernekar
said.
