Four policemen suspended for smuggling drugs with jail inmate

Four policemen, including two head Constables, have been suspended for allegedly conniving with a jail inmate to smuggle drugs into the local prison, police said on Sunday.

Faridkot: Four policemen, including two head Constables, have been suspended for allegedly conniving with a jail inmate to smuggle drugs into the local prison, police said on Sunday.
"The policemen were suspended for allegedly conniving with a local model jail inmate to smuggle drugs into the prison and also on the charges of deleriction of duty, as they took the prisoner to his residence in Amritsar town during his court appearance in that city," SSP Sukhdev Singh Kahlon said.


The official said the suspended policemen were on duty to take a jail inmate Surjit Singh to Amritsar for court appearance on June 18.


After his return to the prison late evening, jail authorities found heroin, worth Rs 30 lakh, with Surjit during security check, he said.


Jail superintendent immediately reported the matter to the district police.


As per the probe, if was found that the policemen -- head constables Kewal Singh and Balwinder Singh and constables Kuldeep Singh and Gurdial Singh -- had taken Surjit to his parental home situated on the outskirts of Amritsar town.


While he was returning to jail, the prisoner kept the narcotics under his turban, police said.
