Chandigarh: Rains lashed several parts of
Punjab and Haryana Thursday including Chandigarh where waterlogging threw traffic out of gear.
In Chandigarh, waterlogging around the roundabouts forced motorists to drive at a snail`s pace. Traffic jams were reported in sectors 17, 22, 34 and 35 besides Madhya Marg.
As strong winds accompanied the heavy showers, several trees were uprooted in different places here.
Power supply in various parts of the city was also
disrupted for a while after the heavy downpour. At some
places, many cable lines and electric poles fell due to strong
winds and rains.
Jalandhar in Punjab also received heavy showers this
morning, disrupting traffic.
According to the local MeT Department, a Western
Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and neighbourhood had
caused the increased rainfall activity in the region.
