Chandigarh: Thirteen people were on Tuesday
arrested from different parts of Haryana in connection with
the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) recruitment scam.

"The arrests were made in connection with the scam in
recruitment of 144 conductors last year...About 85 per cent of
the appointments were done on the basis of impersonation,"
Chandigarh Police Chief Naunihal Singh told reporters here.

"We are also probing whether there were some professional
groups involved in the impersonation," he said.

Among those arrested, two are middlemen who arranged the
impersonators by charging between Rs 15,000 and Rs three lakh
from each candidate, he said, adding, "More arrests are likely
to be made soon."

A Special Investigative Team constituted to probe the
scam, which came to surface in October last year, had sent
samples of handwriting of 113 selected candidates to Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi, which found that 66
specimens did not match with the candidates` handwriting.
