A nine-year-old boy, trapped in a 200-feet-deep borewell in Charda Kala village of Karauli district of Rajasthan since Wednesday, was brought out dead, police said.

Jaipur: A nine-year-old boy, trapped in a 200-feet-deep borewell in Charda Kala village of Karauli district of Rajasthan since Wednesday, was brought out dead, police said.

However, the boy`s family members and the villagers accused authorities of delaying the rescue operations due to lack of resources.

Hindaun station house officer Anoop Singh said, "The joint team of army and local authorities brought Chhotu out of the borewell at around 2.55 p.m. However, it is sad that he could not survive after being in the borewell since Wednesday."

According to him, the boy was flying a kite near his house in Charda Kala village near Hindaun City in Karauli district, some 200 km from Jaipur, when he fell into the borewell about 3 pm Wednesday.

"The boy was stuck around 130 feet down in the one-foot-wide borewell used to draw ground water," said Singh.

He added senior administrative and police officers had reached the spot Wednesday and ordered a rescue operation.

Four JCB machines and earth movers were pressed into service for digging land adjacent to the borewell. When heavy rains impeded work, the army was called in Friday to speed up the rescue process.
