`Hookah bars` banned in Jaipur

To check the mushrooming of `hookah bars` in the city, a ban has been imposed on running of such outlets.

Jaipur: To check the mushrooming of `hookah bars` in the city, a ban has been imposed on running of such outlets.
The order was issued today as "hookah bars" were serving
tobacco molasses containing nicotine which is injurious to
health of the people, especially the college students and
youth, police today said.

"The trend of hookah bars was gaining popularity among
college and even school students in large number for some
time. Since the stuff served in the bars is harmful for the
health, so we decided to ban such bars," City Police
Commissioner B L Soni told reporters.

Police have identified 47 such bars in the city and
process to shut them has started, he said.
"It was brought to our notice that the bar owners were
targeting young boys and girls as their customers which is a
serious matter," he said.

"They have permission to run other activities like
restaurants and others but not hookah bars and we are taking
action against the hookah activity," he said.

All the police stations have been directed to ensure that
no such activity is conducted in their respective area.

He said legal action will be taken against those who were
found running such bars.
