Pushkar fair begins in Ajmer

The annual eight-day long Pushkar fair today began with cultural performances by students and folk artists at the town in Ajmer district of Rajasthan.

fair today began with cultural performances by students and
folk artists at the town in Ajmer district of Rajasthan.

The function started with chanting of Vedic mantras after
which Minister of State for Sports and Education Mangilal
Garasia hoisted the national flag, an official said.

A `Chak De Football` match between the teams of Indian
and foreign tourists was the centre of attraction. Several
domestic tourists and foreigners attended the event.

"Camel ride, wrestling competition, water-pot race for
women, rural sports competition and cultural programmes will
also be held at the fair in the coming days," he said.

The camel and livestock fair will be held from November
14 to 21 at Pushkar, around 15 kms from Ajmer city.

According to the Hindu calendar, the Pushkar fair takes
place in the month of Kartika, beginning on the eighth day
of Lunar calendar and continues till full moon.
