Jaipur: Medical services in some hospitals in
Rajasthan were briefly affected as around 1,300 faculty and
doctors of six medical colleges in the state went on a flash
strike which was withdrawn after government gave an assurance
that it will look into their demands within 15 days.
"We met the chief minister (Ashok Gehlot) today to hand
over the resignations of teachers of all the six medical
colleges but he assured us to fulfill our demands within 15
days," said Dr RC Yadav, Secretary of Rajasthan Medical
College Teachers` Association.
He said to a news agency that the faculty members did not submit their
resignations and decided to postpone the strike by 15 days to
give the government a chance to fulfill its commitment.
Yadav said the medical services in government hospitals
were affected for some time in the morning after resident
doctors too went on a strike to express solidarity with the
striking teachers.
Dr LC Sharma, Superintendent of SMS government hospital
in Jaipur, said the administration had mobilised additional
staff and medical officers. Though several operations
scheduled for the day did not take place, patients in OPD and
emergency were attended to.
The teachers of six government medical colleges in
Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, Kota, Jodhpur and Udaipur are
demanding pay parity with their counterparts in the Central
government-run medical colleges.
