Dhaka: The trial against 256 mutineers of
hospital unit of BDR, who allegedly took part in the revolt
last year in which 57 Army officers were killed began here on Wednesday by a special court.
The three-member court headed by BDR Director General
Md Mainul Islam took the case into cognisance and asked the
authorities concerned to produce all the mutineers before it
at its next sitting. Earlier, 182 rebel soldiers were sent to
prison by the special court.
The court that started around 9:10am and continued
till 11:20 in the morning was adjourned till 10:00am tomorrow.
Subedar Nannu Miah of the unit filed the case for
their alleged involvement in the mutiny.
Of the 256 accused soldiers, 90 have been detained in
a case filed with the New Market Police Station in connection
with BDR Pilkhana mutiny while the rest 166 are still serving
the unit.
The court also ordered to show the 90 arrested in the
case and arrest the rest.
During the submission, Prosecutor of the case Lt Col
Al-Muid told the court that the accused were involved in
killing four doctors and assaulting a number of physicians,
including few lady doctors.
The four doctors killed during the February 25-26
mutiny are identified as Brig Gen Md Jakir Hossain, Lt Col
Kazi Rabi Rahman, Lt Col Lutfur Rahman Khan and Maj SM Mamnur
Rahman.
The mutineers were also involved in dumping the
bodies, he added.
The two other members of the court are Lt Col Mohammad
Nurul Alam and Maj Mohammad Ali Mustain Khan.
A total of 74 people, including 57 army officials
posted in the paramilitary force, were killed during the
February 25-26 mutiny at Pilkhana BDR Headquarters in the
capital last year.
