Washington: The United States is looking for
a mutually satisfactory compromise between the Bangladeshi
Government and the Nobel laureate Muhhamed Yunus on the
Grameen Bank issue which can ensure the bank`s effectiveness.
"We have made clear that we`re deeply troubled by the
situation regarding Yunus and the letter that Bangladesh Bank
sent to Grameen Bank concerning his status as managing
director," the State Department spokesman, Mark Toner, said.
"We`ll continue, obviously, to monitor the situation
closely, and we want to see a mutually satisfactory compromise
that will ensure the Grameen`s Bank effectiveness," Toner said
in response to a question.
Grameen Bank has played a leading role in a global
movement to lift millions of the world`s poorest people out of
poverty using the innovative microcredit concept.
