Kathmandu: Nepal`s Home Minister has said that the new interim election government headed by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi accords top priority towards conducting elections to the Constituent Assembly at the earliest.
Speaking at a function in the capital on Sunday, Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire said, the government is serious about conducting polls at the earliest, as it is the first priority.
Meanwhile, Ghimire today also met Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala and sought the party`s support for conducting elections.
During the meeting, the Home Minister discussed about necessary preparations for the Constituent Assembly polls and sought support from the Nepali Congress to create conducive atmosphere for the polls, according to sources close to the party.
Koirala on the occasion stressed on the need to hold elections in a free, fair and fearless manner, according to Nepali Congress spokesman Dilendra Badu.
Koirala said that the Nepali Congress would extend full support to the government.
He urged the Home Minister to take initiatives with all political parties for creating suitable environment for the polls.
Ending months of political deadlock, Nepal`s four major political parties last week agreed to form an election government led by the nation`s Chief Justice.
The parties had also agreed to conduct the Constituent Assembly polls by mid-June.
