Islamabad: Pakistani police have arrested an
official of the Special Branch in Lahore for allegedly
providing information to terrorists.

Zahid Bajwa, in-charge of the computer section in the
Special Branch of Punjab Police, was handed over to
intelligence agencies after his arrest last week, The News
daily reported today.

After Additional Inspector General of Police Nasir
Durrani took over as head of the Special Branch recently, he
ordered an internal audit of the department.

During the audit, officials found that Zahid had used a
fake domicile to apply for his job. Durrani then ordered
officials to check Zahid`s activities.

During their probe, officials found that a case was
registered under the Explosives Act against Bajwa in
Harbanspura in 2003 after police recovered several grenades
from his possession.

The Special Branch arrested Bajwa five days ago after
registering a case against him.

Bajwa was recruited as a junior clerk by the Central
Police Office in 2009.

He was later transferred to the Special Branch, where he
was appointed as the head of the computer section by former
AIG Ehsan-ul-Haq.
