Pak willing to mull alternatives to drone strikes

The US regularly fires missiles into Pakistan`s northwest tribal region, saying the strikes aimed at eliminating militants.

Islamabad: Pakistan has said it was willing to look at alternatives to the drone attacks by the US, which Islamabad termed "illegal" and "totally unacceptable".

"We are open to new ideas and suggestions," Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Ahmad Khan was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

The US regularly fires missiles into Pakistan`s northwest tribal region, saying the strikes aimed at eliminating al Qaeda and Taliban militants.

"We have repeatedly said that we regard drone attacks as illegal, counterproductive, violative of our sovereignty and territorial integrity and, therefore, totally unacceptable," Khan said.

"We have always been condemning drone attacks and our policy on drones is very clear," he said.

He said many issues remained to be resolved between the two countries, but that both sides were willing to improve relations.
