Lahore: A Pakistani Hindu family was looted on a highway in Punjab province today after attending a three-day festival at Nankana Sahib to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion.
Daleep Kumar and his family were travelling to their hometown at Kherpur in southern Sindh province in two cars when some unidentified armed men intercepted them at Mangatwala Road, 30 km from Nankana Sahib, at 1.30 pm, Evacuee Trust Property Board Deputy Director Fraz Abbas told PTI.
"The armed men deprived Kumar and his family of Rs 75,000 and some gold ornaments and fled," Abbas said.
Police registered a case against the robbers and launched a search for them.
Abbas said a police escort was being provided to all Indian Sikh pilgrims attending religious ceremonies at Nankana Sahib and other places while local Sikhs were being given security at gurdwaras where events are being held.
