Singapore: A first of its kind SAARC fair that highlights the exotic food, arts and crafts from the South Asian countries is being held here.

The two-day "Tastes of South Asia? SAARC Fair" was organised jointly by High Commission officials from India, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

More than 400 people attended the opening of the fair, which displayed artifacts, arts and crafts, as well as food.

The fair reflects the growing cooperation among SAARC member countries, Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Singapore, Jayathri Samarakone, who initiated the fair concept among other South Asian High Commissioners in Singapore said.
"It is the first of its kind of fair to be held outside SAARC member countries," she said.

The plan is to make it an annual affair, added Samarakone.

Lim Hwee Hua, Minister at PMO and Minister for Finance and Transport on Saturday inaugurated the fair.
Though the SAARC Charter Day is observed on December 8, the Diplomatic Missions from SAARC countries in Singapore took advantage of the weekend to hold the fair over the weekend, Samarakone said.
