Colombo: Sri Lankan police said on Wednesday they
were seeking the arrest of men and women who had starred in
locally-made pornographic movies and would soon publish
headshots in the newspapers.
The Children`s and Women`s Bureau of the police said it
planned to send photographs of the local porn stars to the
mainstream press and would ask for public cooperation to
identify them, a police official said.
"We are moving slowly to arrest the suspects involved in
acting as well as producing pornographic movies," the official
said, without saying how many people were wanted.
A list of people will be filed in court tomorrow, he
said, adding that the bureau had already moved court to ban
180 Sri Lankan porn sites showing locally-made videos.
The Sri Lankan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission
(TRC) has been asked to prevent users in the country accessing
the websites.
The move followed complaints heard at Colombo`s Juvenile
Court that children had free access to the websites featuring
Sri Lankans.
Other adult sites featuring non-Sri Lankans will remain
available, however.
Sri Lanka already maintains an unofficial ban on websites
of dissidents by getting local Internet service providers to
block access.
