Armistice Day observed in Puducherry

Puducherry: The 93rd anniversary of the end of First World War (1914-1918) was observed in Puducherry on friday.

It was on this day in November 1918 armistice agreement was inked between the allies and Germany for cessation of hostilities.

District Collector of Puducherry S B Deepak Kumar, French Consul General in Puducherry Pierre Fournier, the President of the Regional Council of Poitou Charentes in France Ms Segolene Royal were among those who paid homage at the statue of the unknown soldier.

The members of the police band of Puducherry presented national songs of India and France on the occasion.

Office bearers of various associations of retired French military and civil services residing in Puducherry placed wreaths at the statue.

Two minutes silence was observed by all those present at the venue in memory of those who had laid down their lives in the First World War.

Officials of various institutions and also from the French Embassy New Delhi were also present.
