Bought no property after coming to power: Jaya

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Monday said she possesses assets worth over Rs 51 crore and has not purchased any new property.

Chennai: In the wake of a newspaper report
stating that Tamil Nadu chief ministers had not declared their assets since long, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Monday said she possesses assets worth over Rs 51 crore and has not purchased
any new property since coming to power three months ago.

Jayalalithaa told the state assembly that she had
mentioned the details of her assets in the affidavit filed by
her during the April 13 elections and "therefore, there is no
need to furnish any (fresh details)".
Her remarks came in response to the issue raised by C K
Tamilarasan of the Republic Party of India in the wake of the
newspaper report.

She said the particular daily had come out with the
report "as if it is bringing out a big secret".
"The Election Commission has stipulated that details of
property should be mentioned when one contests Lok Sabha or
Assembly polls. I had attached details of my property along
with the nomination papers when I submitted them to contest
from Srirangam constituency. The details of my assets had been
widely reported," she said.
