Court allows recall of 45 witnesses in Jayalalithaa case

A special court here trying a disproportionate assets case against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday allowed an application by the prosecution to recall 45 witnesses for cross examination.

prosecution to recall 45 witnesses for cross examination.

Special Court Judge M B Mallikarjunaiah passed the order
on the application filed by Special Public Prosecutor B V
Acharya to recall the witnesses, who had turned hostile.

The prosecution case was that Jayalalithaa had amassed
wealth disproportionate to her known sources of income to the
extent of Rs 66 crore when she was the Chief Minister during
1991-96.

The Supreme Court had earlier directed the judge to permit
the prosecution to recall the witnesses who had turned hostile
and cross-examine them.

The judge adjourned the case to March 3, 2010.
