Over 10,000 private schools in TN to be shut

Protesting the recent school burning incident in Pochampally in Krishnagiri District, over 10,000 private schools under the auspices of Federation of Associations of Private Schools will remained closed.

Coimbatore: Protesting the recent school
burning incident in Pochampally in Krishnagiri District, over
10,000 private schools under the auspices of Federation of
Associations of Private Schools will remained closed in the
state tomorrow.

Talking to reporters here today, federation spokesperson R
Visalakshi said the incident in which a 2000-strong crowd of
local people ransacked the school and set it afire was not
related to the death of a student but due to previous
enmity between the school owner and a workshop owner.

Stating that the federation was happy over the steps being
taken by the government and also arrests made in connection
with the incident, Visalakshi said it would discuss the issue
of giving compensation to the family of the deceased boy.

Though the government had estimated the loss suffered by
the school at Rs.49 lakh, the Federation wanted a compensation
of Rs. three crore, she said.

On allegation that non-licenced and unskilled drivers were
being used for transporting the students, she said the schools
had been advised to use the services of experienced drivers for
this purpose, considering the safety and security of thousands
of students.
