The current wet spell in southern states under the influence of active North East Monsoon would continue with the Met office today forecasting rain or thundershower in several parts of southern states, especially coastal Tamil Nadu in the next few days.

Chennai : The current wet spell in southern states under the influence of active North East Monsoon would continue with the Met office today forecasting rain or thundershower in several parts of southern states, especially coastal Tamil Nadu in the next few days.

"Rain or thundershowers would occur in most places over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry at many places over Kerala, Lakshadweep over the next few days", a Met office bulletin said.

Isolated Rain or thundershowers may occur over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka", it said.

Quilandy in Kozhikode district received highest rainfall during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am today recording 13 cms, while Papanasam in Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu and Karkala in Udupi district of Karnataka recorded five centimeters each.

For Chennai city and its neighbourhood, sky conditions were expected to be cloudy. Rain or thundershowers may occur over the next 24-48 hours, it said.
