TN: Income ceiling limit for govt aid raised

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today directed that the income ceiling limit for persons seeking government assistance in this regard be increased.

Chennai: With the aim of encouraging more
quality literary works in Tamil and helping economically poor
writers, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today directed that the
income ceiling limit for persons seeking government assistance
in this regard be increased.

Henceforth, persons earning Rs 50,000 per annum would be
eligible to apply for financial assistance offered by the
Department of Tamil Development, a government release here
said.

Jayalalithaa directed that the ceiling be revised from Rs
25,000 since it was "very low," and that printing input costs
have gone up with technological advancement.

The move would benefit many poor writers and enable their
works to be published, the release added.
