Upset over BJP leader`s murder, woman party worker ends life

A 51-year-old BJP woman functionary who set herself on fire, apparently upset over the murder of party`s state General Secretary V Ramesh, died on Sunday, police said.

Rajeswari, President of BJP`s Salem and Dharmapuri district women`s wing, did not eat anything ever since she heard about the murder of Ramesh here on Friday night, Salem Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), A Babu said.

She poured kerosene on her body and set herself ablaze at 11 AM, the police official said.

Rajeswari was admitted to the government hospital here with 80 per cent burns, but she succumbed to her injuries this evening.

Her husband is a Sub-Inspector of Kannakurichi in the city. They have a son and a daughter, both of whom are married.

In Chennai, BJP state unit chief Pon Radhakrishnan
condoled the death of Rajeswari.

In a statement, he said the brutal killing of Ramesh had affected the party workers.
He appealed to the party workers not to resort to such extreme action.
