Lucknow: BJP leader Arun Jaitely on Sunday said
UPA government was in dilemma over the draft Prevention of
Communal and Targeted Violence Bill, terming it as a "thorn
stuck in its throat".
"The Bill has become thorn in the throat of the UPA
government, which is neither passing nor withdrawing. This is
a government of dilemma," Jaitely said while addressing a
function here.
"The government does not know what to do... if it takes
it back Sonia Gandhi will get angry, and if it is passed the
countrymen will be angry," Jaitely said adding that BJP was
against the Bill since the time it was proposed.
He said that UPA government was in dilemma be it matter
of armed forces special powers act in Jammu and Kashmir,
capital punishment to the killers of Rajiv Gandhi or the case
of Parliament attack accused.
Claiming that Home Minister P Chidambaram had to back
track from his statement, regarding dealing strictly with
Maoists, Jaitely said that it happened after opposition from
within his own party.
About Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Jaitely alleged that
his position in the government is of a CEO (Chief Executive
Officer)of a company, who has to execute orders of Congress
party.
Members of the National Advisory Council (NAC) had on
November 18 demanded tabling of the Prevention of Communal and
Targeted Violence bill in the Winter Session of Parliament.
The Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence(Access
to Justice and Reparations) Bill 2001, better known as
communal violence bill, has been submitted by NAC to the
government which has yet not acted on it in the wake of
opposition to the draft provisions by political parties like
the BJP.
The draft law intends to prevent and control targeted
violence against the scheduled castes, the scheduled tribes
and religious and linguistic minorities.
