A doctor has been arrested here for his alleged involvement in a fake currency racket, police said on Tuesday.

Bahraich: A doctor has been arrested here for
his alleged involvement in a fake currency racket, police said
on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the house of Dr
Mohammad Latif Siddiqui, a private medical practitioner, at
Mahsi under Hardi police station and recovered fake currency
having face value of Rs one lakh, material used in printing
notes, and four types of special ink, Superintendent of Police
Lalji Shukla said.

The arrested doctor has confessed to having pumped in
fake currency notes with face value of lakhs of rupees through
the rural animal markets and village fairs, Shukla said.

Certain information about Siddiqui`s contacts in
Jharkhand and Bihar besides his property in Nepal has also
come to light, the SP said, adding that while one of his wives
along with their children live with him here, another wife
lives in Nepal.

Efforts are on to take him into police custody for
further questioning, he said.
