Lucknow: The BJP on Saturday announced free legal aid to farmers facing cases after their agitation against land acquisition at Bhatta Parsaul in Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
"The party will bear all legal expenses of farmers against whom cases had been lodged in Bhatta-Parsaul," BJP`s national vice-president Kalraj Mishra said while addressing a kisan panchayat in the twin villages.
He said former Union Minister and national secretary Ashok Pradhan has been given the responsibility to ensure legal help to the farmers.
Mishra rejected the new land acquisition and rehabilitation policy by the Mayawati government as "farce".
Meanwhile the BSP, while terming the BJP`s yatra as a drama, alleged that the saffron party was misleading farmers for cheap publicity.
"The BJP should first work in the interest of farmers in party-ruled states," a BSP spokesman said here.
"Allegations levelled by the BJP are baseless and false.”
