HC detains 2 IAS officers in UP, lets them off after apology

Taking a strong exception on disobedience of court orders, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court directed that two IAS officers be taken into custody.

Lucknow: Taking a strong exception on disobedience of court orders, the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed that two IAS officers be taken into custody.

Justice Sudhir Agarwal later released additional commissioner (Administration, Faizabad) Shailendra Kumar Singh and Principal Secretary, Stamp and Registration, Brij Mohan Meena after they tendered their unconditional apology and undertaking that such lapses will not take place in future.

In both contempt petitions, the petitioners alleged that Singh and Meena had not complied with earlier orders of the writ court.

The court had summoned both the officers, who accordingly appeared before it on Tuesday. Taking a serious view against the officers, the court directed for taking both of them into custody and keeping them in jail for three days.

Later, the two officials tendered unconditional apology and undertaking that no such derelictions or lapses will take place in future.

They submitted that they were ready to pay compensation of Rs 10,000 to each petitioner for harassment, following which the court released them forthwith.
