Noida: A 28-year-old woman and her seven-year-old daughter were allegedly set on fire by her husband in the Phase-II area of Noida on Saturday.
According to Phase-II station officer Deepak Sharma, Sanjay Sarcar, a resident of Shramik Kunj in Sector-110, had a tiff with his wife Mona on Saturday afternoon after getting heavily drunk. As the matter rose amidst heated exchange of words, Sanjay, an auto-driver by profession, allegedly poured kerosene on her and set her and their daughter Meenakshi ablaze.
He then took them in a critically burned state to the Kailash Hospital here. Due to non-availability of beds there, he then took them to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi and got them admitted. He then fled from the hospital and did not turn up again.
Mona and her daughter Meenakshi on Sunday morning succumbed to their burn injuries. The neighbours, who saw Sanjay taking them in an auto, informed Mona`s brother Madhav about the matter, police said.
A case was registered at Phase-II police station against Sanjay. He remained absconding till Sunday evening.
Sanjay had married Mona about 12 years ago. The family originally belonged to West Bengal and had moved to Noida about two-three years back.
"He (Sanjay) was badly into drinking habit and often quarrelled with his wife at home even over petty issues. He had an argument with Mona on Saturday. Their daughter Meenakshi was also at home at that time. He burned both of them alive," Madhav alleged.
