Meerut: A day after his marriage, a college lecturer committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree at his house in Nagla Rathi village here, police said on Saturday.
Satish Singh, who was a lecturer in Degree College in Debai of district Bulandshahr, committed suicide on the intervening night of April 17-18 by hanging himself from a tree at his residential complex in village Nagla Rathi in Daurala area, they said.
Satish got married to granddaughter of an ex-MLA on April 16 and had come to his house with the bride on April 17, police said. When the incident happened, the family members were not present at the home as they had gone to attend another marriage ceremony at a relative`s house, police said.
Police, after getting information from villagers, reached the spot on Friday morning and sent the body for postmortem.
Daurala Police Inspector Janak Singh said that in postmortem report asphyxiation was reported as cause for the death.
