Meerut: A 48-year-old private firm employee was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified armed men and one other injured as assailants decamped with the victim's bag containing Rs five lakh, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place last night when the victim identified as Sudesh Jain, an accountant in a private firm, was on the way to the house of company owner Satya Narayan on his bicycle to hand over Rs 5 lakh cash to him, they said.

As soon as he reached near the owner's house, two armed persons opened fire and seized his bag. The victim died on the spot, police said.

Upon hearing the bullet sound, one medical store owner Deepesh Gupta came to his rescue and tried to get hold of the accused, following which they shot at him.

After the firing, the assailants barged inside Delhi-Vaishali bus station and fled on a motorcycle which they had seized from a bystander, police said.

Gupta was admitted to a hospital while the victim's body was sent for post-mortem, they added.
