Noida: Farmers from various villages across Noida will meet here on Sunday for a ‘Mahapanchayat’ to decide on the future steps to be taken to press for their demand for better compensation for their land acquired by the Noida Authority.
The Kisan Sangarsh Samiti has called for ‘Mahapanchayat’ at Sorkha village, in Sector 74.
Farmers from almost 54 villages are expected to attend the meeting and spearhead their demands.
Mainly, farmers from two villages Sorkha and Shahdara are leading the protests for better compensation for their land acquired in 2007.
Farmers of Noida villages along the Expressway on Saturday served an ultimatum to the authorities to give by July 31 five percent of the land developed after acquiring from them or otherwise they will stop builders` projects.
Into the third day of their agitation, estimated 500 farmers from villages located along the Expressway assembled at Nagli Wajidpur village and said their land was acquired in the year 2003 and given a compensation of just Rs 361 per square meter.
The farmers said they were promised 5 percent developed land but it was not yet given.
Noida officials, including deputy CEO NP Singh, met the farmers and assured them that their problems would be redressed soon by senior officials.
They were told that 5 percent developed land would be given to them soon.
Regarding the hike in land compensation, they were told that authorities will forward their demand to the state government for approval.
It is learnt that farmers from several villages - Magroli, Chaproli, Shahdara, Sultanpur, Asgarpur, Bajitpur, Jhatta Badoli Bangar and Moiyapur have also joined the protest bandwagon and are threatening to stop construction work in Sectors 45,46,48 and 93.
Farmers Dalvir Singh Yadav, Manoj Kumar and others said they plan to move the court and will go to Allahabad and file a petition seeking higher compensation for the acquired land.
The Allahabad High Court, on July 20, postponed its verdict on the legality of land acquisition in two villages of the Greater Noida area popularly known as Noida Extension.
The High Court will announce its verdict on July 26 on the plea of farmers and villagers from Roja Yaqubpur and Bisarakh Jalalpur villages, who went to court against the Greater Noida Authority’s decision to acquire their land.
The court has already cancelled land acquisition in some other villages of Greater Noida in earlier judgements.
