Muzaffarnagar: Notorius criminal Sushil alias Mounch was acquitted by a court here in a murder case, the eighth case in which he has been exonerated this week paving way for his release from jail.

He was acquitted yesterday in the murder case of one Hasin, who was shot dead in police custody when he was being taken to Delhi court from Muzaffarnagar for a hearing in February, 2001, according to prosecution sources.

Sushil was wanted in 13 such cases including that of murder, extortion, attempt to murder and loot, when he was arrested by a Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh police in November, 2012.

He was exonerated in seven other cases earlier this week when the witnesses turned hostile, while he was granted bail in remaining five cases, following which he was released from jail yesterday, they said.

The criminal, who carried a reward of Rs One Lakh on his head, was leader of a gang active in Uttarakhand, Delhi and Haryana along with UP and was accused in four murder cases including one of a gram pradhan and two others in police custody.
