Farrukhabad: At least 14 people, one of
them a candidate for the post of Gram Pradhan, were injured in
clashes in Kayamganj Development Block during polling for the
first phase of Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh today.
The clashes between rival groups, in which firearms
were freely used, erupted over alleged irregularities during
the polling process, police said.
Eight people suffered gunshot wounds in Surfabad
village and five in Ahmednagar Beoria, they said.
The candidate for the post of Gram Pradhan was stabbed
in Raehgaon village and was admitted to hospital where his
condition was stated to be critical.
