Production warrant against jailed UP MLA

MLA Mukhtar Ansari is lodged in jail for his alleged role in the 2005 murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Friday issued a
production warrant against Uttar Pradesh MLA Mukhtar Ansari,
lodged in a jail in the state, for his alleged role in the
2005 murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and facing trial in a
criminal case here also.

Additional Sessions Judge Savita Rao issued the
production warrant against Ansari for February 9, after he
could not be produced in her court to face trial here for
allegedly running an organised crime syndicate for contract
killings and extortion.

Ansari is facing trial, along with alleged gangster Munna
Bajrangi and his associates Miraz Ahmed and Iftikar Ahmad,
in ASJ Rao`s court in a case under the stringent Maharashtra
Control of Organised Crime Act.

"Production warrant be issued against him (Ansari) for
February 9," ordered ASJ Rao, seeking Ansari`s production in
her court after the Uttar Pradesh police told her that he
could not be brought to the court as the police personnel were
engaged in assembly election duties.

Ansari is produced from Agra Jail for hearing of the case
here. The court, meanwhile, put up for January 30 Bajrangi`s
plea to be sent to his native place in Jaunpur to file his
nomination paper there to contest the UP assembly election.
