Proposal to divide UP a poll stunt: Modi

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister SK Modi on Thursday held as "election stunt" the decision to divide Uttar Pradesh into four parts proposed by Mayawati.

Patna: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister SK Modi
on Thursday held as "election stunt" the decision to divide Uttar
Pradesh into four parts and said its propagator Mayawati was
not serious about it.

"It is nothing but an election stunt... has Uttar
Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati been serious, she would have
brought the resolution for bifurcation of UP four years ago,"
Modi said.

BJP was a votary of small states, but it should not
be at the cost of financial self-reliance, the senior party
leader said and rejected the demand for carving yet another
state of Mithilanchal out of Bihar.

"Bihar has already faced a division with a separate
state of Jharkhand being carved out of it... now there is no
need for yet another division," he said.
