Sex for certificate: Sting reveals racket in Lucknow hospital

Students of a private hospital in Lucknow have alleged that the hospital administration was forcibly taking sexual favours from students to award them certificates.

Lucknow: Students of a private hospital in Lucknow have alleged that the hospital administration was forcibly taking sexual favours from students to award them certificates.

The matter came to light when a student, Anamika (name changed), conducted a sting operation when the PRO of the hospital called her to his house Saturday night.

"I am doing a three-and-a-half-year nursing diploma in the KK Hospital and have completed over two years. However, my attendance was short and the PRO, Ramjilal Vajpai, asked me for sexual favours to pacify things. He was exploiting me for the past few months after which I decided to perform the sting operation and expose them," the girl, not willing to be named, told mediapersons.

Another student, Satyabhama Singh, lodged an FIR against the hospital administration at the Vazeerganj police station Sunday.

"She is not alone. A large number of girls, including me, are being exploited in the hospital," Singh told reporters.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Lucknow, Prem Prakash said: "Initial investigations have revealed that the racket was going on for a long time. An FIR has been lodged and we have also arrested Kamal Kant Singh, the director of the hospital, and his elder brother Krishna Kant Singh. Vajpai is absconding."

Accroding to officials, Krishna Kant Singh is a professor in the surgery department of the Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU) and has a "dubious history".

"Krishna Kant Singh has been suspended a number of times and has been found to be involved in issuance of fake degrees," a police officer said.

The KK Hospital is located right in front of the district police headquarters in Vazeerganj locality.
