Sonia orders probe into rejection of NREGS job applications

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday took strong exception to the alleged rejection of over 15 thousand applications for job cards under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in her constituency.

on Wednesday took strong exception to the alleged rejection of over
15 thousand applications for job cards under the National
Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in her constituency
and asked Rae Bareli`s District Magistrate to hold an inquiry
into the complaints.

The AICC chief issued the directive while chairing a
meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee to
review the progress of the centrally sponsored schemes during
a day`s visit to her parliamentary constituency here.

Congress MLA Shiv Ganesh Lodhi, who also attended the
over two-hour meeting, told newspersons that the Congress
president has asked the DM to probe on what basis these
applications had been turned down.

Gandhi also asked the DM to look into the complaints
regarding quality of roads constructed under the Prime
Minister Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY).

She also reviewed the progress of Rajiv Gandhi rural
electrification scheme besides the other centrally sponsored
schemes during the meeting.

After the meeting, Gandhi visited the site where Congress
party`s multi-purpose building is being constructed and on the
way heard the problems of party workers as also locals and
took their applications.
