Eight people perished in heavy rains that lashed several parts of Uttar Pradesh overnight triggering house collapses and inundating low-lying areas.

Two persons each were killed in Amebdkarnagar, Gonda
and Chandauli when lightning struck them while a fatality each
occurred in Fatehpur and Lucknow owing to house collapses,
reports said.

Major rivers have started rising in the state as
Lucknow received 43.2 mm of rains, Bhatpurwa (Sitapur) 40 mm
and Ayodhya 28 mm.

The Central Water Commission said river Ganga is
rising all along its course in Fatehgarh and Kanpur Rural,
Ramganga in Moradabad and Gomti in Lucknow and Sitpur.

Water levels of river Ghagra is also rising at
Bahraich, Elgin Bridge (Barabanki) and Ayodhya, it said.
