Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has
blamed the Centre for the shortage of fertiliser in the state
citing "limited release" as the reason for farmers`s distress.

In a letter to the Fertiliser Minister Srikant Jena the
state minister for agriculture Chaudhary Laxmi Narain said
until regular supply of fertiliser is not maintained, the
farmers cannot give a good harvest.

Blaming the slow release of fertiliser from the Centre,
Narain said, "Uttar Pradesh farmers are facing crisis due to
the limited release of fertilisers by the central agencies."

The union government should ensure proper supply or the
crops would suffer, Narain said adding the state was dependant
on the Centre for the fertiliser supply.

Narain said UP had sought 5.50 lakh metric tonnes of
fertiliser but the Centre had released only five lakh tonnes.

He said almost 65 per cent of the sowing was over when
DAP and NPK was given to the state.
