UP grants Rs 2 crores for flood-hit districts

The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 2 crores for relief and rescue work in the flood-affected eastern districts of the state, an official spokesman said here on Monday.

sanctioned a sum of Rs 2 crores for relief and rescue work in
the flood-affected eastern districts of the state, an official
spokesman said here on Monday.

PAC and NDRF teams have been alerted and a PAC contingent
has been send to Jaunpur and Mirzapur districts, he said.

Similarly, top authorities including District Magistrates
of the concerned districts have also been put on alert to
tackle any emergency situation, the official added.

He said directives have been issued to provide ex-gratia
of Rs one lakh to the kin of people killed in rain-related
incidents and the government has already provided an initial
grant of Rs 32.16 crore to affected districts for relief work.

At least 28 people have been killed in several districts
of eastern UP which witnessed heavy downpour in the last
couple of days. While Varanasi received 300 mm rainfall till
yesterday, Jaunpur recorded 120 mm rain. Train services in
Mughalsarai and Varanasi stations have also been affected due
to the rains.
